EPUB, an ebook format which can be read on a wide range of electronic book readers is gaining popularity these days. More and more publishers and authors are now developing their books in epub ebook format along with the Kindle, Mobipocket, and Microsoft Reader.

There are several tools and software available online that converts PDF and word copy book to ePub format. But many of these converted epub format files fail validation. Some ePub readers are very loose in what they accept, so to validate EPUB file becomes essential. Also Apple’s iPad only accepts ePub format ebooks that are validated.

EPUB is the file extension of an XML format for reflowable digital books and publications. During epub conversion there are certain set of standards to be maintained for epub reflowable digital books. Most of the times these standards are not maintained and it causes error. Such kind of errors can only come forth if we validate the EPUB file. The epub validation tool identifies the errors and then the epub book developer can get rid of those errors and can create the epub format book that meets all the standards. The epub validation tool checks OCF container structure, OPF and OPS mark-up.

Even if your eBook displays correctly in all major eBook readers, some publishers would not accept it if it does not pass the validation check. Also Apple’s iPad only accepts ePub format ebooks that are validated.

The best way to validate EPUB file is to upload your DRM-free ePub document from your disk and click "Validate Now". In case there are errors in your EPUB format file, the validation tool will show you which files from the EPUB package need to be corrected and the developer can further work on it.
